During the 2008-09 legislative session, NJDHA was involved in 71 bills. Of these 71 bills, NJDHA took the following positions: Monitored (26), Supported (44), and Opposed (1).
As a result of NJDHA’s diligent efforts, the following bills that we supported were signed into law: CLICK HERE to read
- A-267 Vandervalk (R39) — Authorizes parent or guardian to request use of individualized health care plan for student with diabetes and provides for the emergency administration of glucagon for certain students.
- S-613 Vitale (D19) — Prohibits sale of certain flavored cigarettes.
- S-1220 Weinberg (D37) — Renames the Primary Care Physician and Dentist Loan Redemption Program and makes various other changes to the program.
- S-2905 Vitale (D19) — Requires chain restaurants to provide calorie information for food or beverage items offered for sale.
I am pleased to report that the one bill which we opposed did not go anywhere, in fact, it never received a committee hearing. This one bill is:
- A-670 Doherty (R23) — Permits smoking in place or building owned and operated by social or fraternal organization.
As for the new legislative session, we have already seen 40 bills introduced that we have an interest in. With an aggressive legislative agenda planned by NJDHA, we should expect a busy 2010-2011 session.
